PRACTICAL INTRODUCTION TO MIXED REALITY TECHNOLOGY

This course will explore the practical introduction to mixed reality technology, including virtual reality and augmented reality technology, for interfacing humans to complex machines, through hands-on workshops. The unit will focus on the practical aspects and application of mixed reality technology. The class will be a combination of lectures, technology demonstrations, case studies, readings, and exploration of mixed reality technology along with participation in group projects. Students will also be given hands on experience in developing prototypes using mixed reality technology.

This unit is offered as a practical companion unit to KXH141 and KXH142, complementing more in-depth exploration of virtual reality (through KXH141) and augmented reality (through KXH142). KXH112 is a precursor to a new cross-disciplinary program in Human Interface Technology being offered at HIT Lab Australia, School of Computing & Information Systems.
