From HIT Lab Australia
Nic Low, lead artist for the "A Map of a Dream of the Future" project will give a presentation in the HIT Lab Vision Space on Tuesday Sept 29 between 3 and 4pm. If you have time and are interested please come along.
Presentation Overview
A Map of a Dream of the Future is a new Tasmanian art, education and climate change project. The project's core is a 3D map-based data visualisation of young Tasmanians' attitudes towards the future and climate change. The project team are currently looking for collaborators within HIT Lab who have interest or skills in 3D systems and modelling, mapping and data visualisation.
Based on work collected at State-wide school workshops, the 3D environment presents a geospatial representation of stories, images and statistical data. Each 3D settlement on the map presents the ideas of one workshop participant; each settlement is assigned x and y values on the map depending on the nature of the future it describes. Similar ideas / settlements group together to form towns and cities, creating an imaginary future Tasmania as designed by its youth.
Join lead artist Nic Low for an introduction to the project, and learn about ways of contributing to its development over the next ten months. The project is an initiative of Regional Arts Tasmania and the UTAS School of Environment and Geography. It will be presented to the public at the high-profile Australian Regional Arts Conference in Launceston in August 2010. Participation offers the chance to make a strong contribution to a topical, real-world art / technology initiative.
